Voice হলো verb এর এক বিশেষ বাচনভঙ্গি। ইংরেজিতে দুই রকমের Voice সাধারণ ভাবে Use করা হয়।

1- Active Voice 

2- Passive Voice

Ex- 

1- He eats rice. সে ভাত খায়।

2- Rice is eaten by him. তার দ্বারা ভাত খাওয়া হচ্ছে।

Active Voice এ Subject নিজেই verb এর কাজটা সক্রিয় ভাবে করে।

আর Passive Voice এ Subject টা নিষ্ক্রিয় হয়ে যায় ও অন্য একটা Subject Verb এর কাজটা করে।

Voice-Active Voice থেকে Passive Voice এ রূপান্তরের নিয়ম

1- প্রথমেই Active Voice এর Object টাকে Subject করে নিতে হবে।

2- তারপর একটি Auxiliary Verb ('Be' Verb) Tense অনুযায়ী বসাতে হবে।

3- Active Voice এর Finite Verb- টা Past Participle Form এ change করতে হবে।

4- তারপর একটি By বসাতে হবে।

5- Active এর Subject টি Object রূপে বসাতে হবে।

Ex- 

Active voice- He writes a letter.

Passive voice- A letter is written by him.

ACTIVE-  I sing a song.

PASSIVE- A song is sung by me.

ACTIVE- You buy a pen.

PASSIVE- A pen is bought by you.

ACTIVE- He eats rice.

PASSIVE- Rice is eaten by him.

ACTIVE- She drinks milk.

PASSIVE- Milk is Drunk by her.

ACTIVE-  We see birds.

PASSIVE- Birds are seen by us.

ACTIVE- They help us.

PASSIVE- We are helped by them.

ACTIVE- The boy reads English.

PASSIVE- English is read by the boy

ACTIVE- My brother helps his brother.

PASSIVE- His brother is helped by my brother.

ACTIVE- He calls me.

PASSIVE- l am called by him.

ACTIVE- He dose not drink milk.

PASSIVE- Milk is not Drunk by him.

A- Dose he drink milk?

P- Is milk drunk by him?

A-Who drinks milk?

P- By whom is milk drunk?

How to use Can / Could in sentence 

Can 

1- Ability অর্থে : সামর্থ্য 

A- He can speak German. সে জার্মান ভাষা বলতে সমর্থ,

=> He is able to speak German.

B- He cannot write English. সে ইংরাজি বলতে সমর্থ নয়। (অর্থাৎ , পারেনা )

=> He is not able/unable to write English.

2- Permission (অনুমতি দেওয়া অর্থে) 

A- Can I speak to Mr. Sur? আমি কি Mr. Sur এর সঙ্গে কথা বলতে পারি?

(কথা বলার অনুমতি পেতে পারি?)

3- Theoretical possibility ( সম্ভাবনা অর্থে) :

A- Anybody can protest.  যে কেউ প্রতিবাদ করতে পারে । 

Could 

Past ability: 

A- I could never do sums. আমি কখনোই অঙ্ক করতে পারতাম না । ( অতীত কালের কথা ) ।

B- He could dance well. ( সে ভালো নাচতে পারতো)।

Request 

A- Could you please give me a book? 

Present or Future Permission: 

A- Could I speak to Mr. Das? আমি কি Mr. Das এর সাথে কথা বলতে পারি/ পারবো ? ( বর্তমান কালেও could বসে)।

Present possibility :

A- We could attend the meeting.

B- The boy could be published.

অবাস্তব অবস্থায় সম্ভাবনা : 

A- If I had enough money, I could buy a car./ I could have bought a car.

How to use May/ Might in sentences 

May 

Permission

A- May I come in sir? 

B- May I do it? 

Possibility

A- It may rain soon. শীঘ্রই বৃষ্টি হতে পারে । 

Wish/Prayer ( ইচ্ছা বা প্রার্থনা বোঝাতে)

A- May you be Happy!    ----Wish

B- May God bless you!   ---- Prayer

Might 

Possibility

A- He might be killed (সে মারা পড়তে পারতো)

B- He might have helped you. সে তোমাকে সাহায্য করতে পারতো । 

C- What you say might be true.( তুমি যা বলছ, তা সত্যি হতে পারত)।

Shall / Should 

Shall

Future Tense বোঝাতে 

I shall go there tomorrow.

Intention ( ইচ্ছা বোঝাতে )

We shall visit the place.

To give order or intimidation (আদেশ / ভয় প্রদর্শন)

A- You shall come soon.

B- He shall die!

Should

উচিত অর্থে 

1- You should obey your parents. He should help your friends.

Condition ( শর্ত)

2- Should you be kind enough to help me.............

Other use

3- How should I do it ? এটা কি করে করি বলুন তো?

Will / Would 

Will

Willingness ( ইচ্ছা)

A- I will tell you a story.

B- He will help you, surely! 

Polite request

A- Will you have tea?

B- Will you please shut the door?

Would

Polite Request :

A- Would you please help me? 

B- Would you mind shutting the door, Please?

Past habit 

A- Every night he would drink.

Expressing preference 

A- I'd (I would) rather go! আমি বরং যাই।

MUST

A- He must do it.

B- He must have done it.

C- You must have heard the name of Netaji.

D- There must be some mistakes in what he writes.

OUGHT TO 

A- You ought to do your duty.

B- She ought to be here by now

NEED

A- He needs a good dictionary

B- You need a sweater. 

C- He need not go. ( তার যাবার দরকার নেই)

Note --- Need -- Principal Verb হলে তার সঙ্গে person ভেদে 's' যোগ হবে । কিন্তু need Auxiliary verb হলে সব person এই need হবে কোনো s যোগ হবে না । উপরের sentence তিনটি দেখলেই ব্যাপারটা পরিষ্কার হয়ে যাবে । 

A - He did not need to go. ( তার যাওয়ার দরকার ছিল না । )

C- Need he go ? (তার কি যাওয়া দরকার)

'Need' এর আর একটি মজার use হল 

A- He just needs to go. (এখানে needs মানে Necessarily. )

DARE 

1- How dare you to do this? তুমি এটা কোন সাহসে করো?

2- How dare he do it? সে এটা কোন সাহসে করলো?

3- Dare he comes here? তার এখানে আসার সাহস আছে ?

4- I daresay (I dare Say ) he did it. Daresay here means ---- suppose

USED TO 

A- His hair used to be black, but it is grey now.

B- He used to read the Bible every morning.

C- I usedn't to like the man, but now I like him.
